Poland responds to chemical vehicle fire and school bus safety violations

In Rogoźna, Poland, a delivery van transporting chemical reagents used in schools caught fire on September 17, 2026. The vehicle's cargo area was ablaze, containing several boxes of chemical reagents and empty metal drums. Firefighters secured the scene, extinguished the fire, and managed the damaged containers. A specialized chemical rescue group was deployed to identify substances and test water, which showed alkaline properties. During the operation, a damaged container of nitric acid was neutralized using a sodium hydroxide solution.

Separately, road safety inspections in various Polish counties revealed significant hazards regarding school transportation. In Nowy Targ County, inspectors found school buses with severe technical defects, including leaking fluids, faulty brakes, and damaged seatbelts. In Mińsk County, a school bus driver transporting 38 children was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, testing at 0.21 per mille. Additionally, in Wyszków County, a 76-year-old driver was stopped for operating a school bus with expired credentials. In these cases, vehicles were grounded and registration documents were seized.
