Poland retail debate intensifies over Sunday trading rules

Debate continues in Poland regarding the Sunday trading ban, with various proposals and enforcement actions emerging. Politician Ryszard Petru has suggested delegating the decision to allow Sunday trading to local governments, such as municipalities or counties, potentially starting with tourist areas. A survey by SW Research indicates a divided public: 38.8% support local government control over trading rules, while 41.1% oppose the proposal.

Simultaneously, the trade union NSZZ Solidarność has launched a nationwide campaign to combat alleged violations of the current ban. The union is calling on citizens to photograph and submit receipts from stores suspected of operating illegally on Sundays and holidays. Alfred Bujara, chairman of the National Section of Retail Workers at Solidarność, stated that the union intends to use these documents to file reports with the prosecutor's office, arguing that current sanctions for retailers are insufficient.
