Poland beer market shifts as non-alcoholic sales surge
Data from the Polish Central Statistical Office (GUS) indicates a significant shift in consumer habits within the beverage and retail sectors. In the first half of 2026, sales of traditional alcoholic beer in Poland fell by 11.9% year-on-year. Conversely, the non-alcoholic beer segment experienced robust growth, with sales increasing by 16.2% during the same period and surging by 30.1% in June alone.
Bartłomiej Morzycki, Director General of the Association of Brewers (Browary Polskie), attributes this trend to the global ‘NoLo’ (no or low alcohol) and ‘Better for You’ movements, as well as rising prices for alcoholic products, which have increased by over 40% in recent years. This shift is seen as a response to health-conscious consumer behavior and economic pressures.
Regarding broader retail trends, July 2026 saw a 3.9% year-on-year increase in retail sales at constant prices. While this growth was slower than in previous months, sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and furniture showed strong performance. However, price increases were noted in non-alcoholic beverages (5.6%) and household chemicals (5.4%), partly driven by seasonal demand and potential costs related to the deposit system.
