Poland retail sales slow as e-commerce share reaches 10%

Data from Statistics Poland (GUS) for September 2026 indicates a slowdown in the overall retail market. While furniture and electronics sectors showed positive results, the clothing and footwear categories experienced a decline.

E-commerce continues to expand its footprint, with online sales increasing by 18.7% year-over-year. The share of e-commerce in total retail sales rose from 9% to 10.1%. Significant growth in online market share was noted in specialized stores for books and press, which rose from 20.6% to 26.2%, and in the furniture and home appliance segment, which grew from 18.2% to 23.2%.

In the textiles, clothing, and footwear category, online shopping now accounts for over 27% of sales. This shift is driving demand for logistics infrastructure, such as warehouses and last-mile delivery hubs, and is altering the role of physical stores, which are increasingly being used for order pickups and returns.
