Poland revises fertilizer subsidy rules to increase compensation

The Polish Ministry of Agriculture has revised its proposal for fertilizer subsidies, reversing a previous plan to reduce the compensation amount. The latest draft, which is set to be submitted to the Council of Ministers, restores the calculation to 100 percent of the difference between the purchase price and the reference price.

In an earlier version of the project, the ministry proposed limiting aid to 50 percent of the price difference, a move that faced significant controversy among farmers. The updated regulation ensures that the full difference between the price paid by the farmer and the average price announced by the minister will be used to calculate support.

The new project also extends the eligibility period for fertilizer purchases. While the previous draft covered purchases made between March 1 and August 15, 2026, the revised version extends this window to August 31, 2026. Although the method of calculation has changed to provide higher individual payouts, the total budget allocated for this support remains unchanged. Application submissions through the Agency for Restructuring and Modernisation of Agriculture (ARiMR) are expected to begin on October 1.
