Ukraine railway infrastructure targeted by Russian drone strikes

Russian forces have intensified attacks on Ukrainian railway infrastructure, targeting passenger trains with drones. In the Kharkiv region, a drone strike at the Lymanyvka station hit a freight wagon next to an electric train. The attack resulted in the deaths of two women and left five others injured, including an 11-year-old girl in critical condition.

In the Odesa region, a Shahed drone struck a passenger train locomotive. While the train was stopped and passengers were being evacuated, the locomotive was hit a second time. No injuries were reported in this incident, which involved 593 passengers, including 15 children.

Ukrainian Minister of Reconstruction, Infrastructure and Transport Mykola Kalashnyk, noted that Russian forces have attacked railway infrastructure 1,534 times since the beginning of 2026. He emphasized that these strikes occurred even as authorities attempted to evacuate passengers from targeted locations.
