Poland rolls out major school curriculum reform for 2026

Poland’s Ministry of Education announced that the new curriculum programme “Kompas jutra” (Compass of Tomorrow) will be introduced in the 2026‑27 school year. The reform expands weekly lesson time for early‑primary pupils, adds a compulsory "project week", and inserts new subjects such as health education and civic education. Practical‑technology classes, digital‑hygiene rules limiting individual screen use in kindergartens, and six thematic modules covering safety, media literacy, philosophy, economics, climate and culture will become part of the syllabus.

The changes also affect school nutrition: a new regulation limits the sale of highly processed, low‑nutrient foods in educational institutions and promotes healthier, planet‑friendly meals. Implementation will start with kindergartens and first‑grade classes in 2026, extending to higher grades through 2027, with older curricula remaining in place until the transition is complete.
