Poland to host major summer sky events: Perseid meteor shower and Moon‑Venus conjunction

On 12 August, a free public event in Skierniewice, Poland, will feature the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. Organized by Radio RSC and the Koluszkowska Space Station, the program includes telescope viewing of the meteor swarm, a partial solar eclipse earlier in the evening, ecological workshops, music, and a “dream capsule” activity. The gathering is set for 21:00 at the Zalew Zadębie site and is open to families and astronomy enthusiasts.

Earlier in the summer, on 17 July, observers across central Poland will be able to see a striking conjunction of the Moon and Venus. About 45 minutes after sunset, the bright planet (magnitude ‑4.2) will appear very close to a thin crescent Moon near the western horizon, creating a photogenic sky scene around 21:40. No special equipment is required, though binoculars can enhance the view. Clear, dark locations away from city lights are recommended for the best experience.
