Poland school attacks spark concerns over online influence
Poland is facing a wave of violent school attacks that have raised concerns regarding the influence of toxic online trends on real-world behavior.
On October 8, a 15-year-old former student entered a primary school in Leszczydol-Nowiny, located approximately 60 km northeast of Warsaw, armed with three sharp knives. The attack resulted in the death of a 37-year-old maintenance worker and left the school principal and another individual injured. Investigators noted that the suspect wore a helmet equipped with a camera to record the violence, leading to suspicions that the act was intended to fulfill an online challenge or gain internet notoriety.
This incident marks the second such attack in Poland within a 48-hour period. A day prior, a 19-year-old student used a weapon to attack several people in Ostroleka, causing multiple injuries. Authorities in Sierpc have also made arrests in connection with recent school-related violence.
