Poland conducts massive school security inspections after series of knife attacks

Poland is facing a wave of violence in educational institutions following a series of knife attacks. In a single week, three major incidents occurred: a 19-year-old student injured nine people in Ostrołęka, a 15-year-old killed a 37-year-old school employee in Leszczydół-Nowiny, and a 21-year-old woman attacked three women at an adult education facility in Warsaw.

In response, Polish police conducted inspections of approximately 50,000 schools nationwide, resulting in 76 detentions and 231 recorded incidents of suspected criminal activity. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has attributed the violence to a growing fascination with violent content and extremist ideologies online, rather than organized groups. Authorities are also investigating potential disinformation campaigns, including possible Russian involvement, aimed at inciting panic.

The Ministry of Interior and Administration has issued new safety guidelines for schools. These protocols include securing entrances, establishing internal shelter zones, and strictly prohibiting parents from arriving at schools during active alarms to prevent obstructing emergency services.
