Russia strikes western Ukraine, prompting Polish military alert

Russian drone and missile strikes targeting western Ukraine have triggered security alerts in Poland, where fighter jets were scrambled and ground air defense systems were placed on standby. The attacks heavily impacted the Volyn region, leaving approximately 370,000 people without electricity and causing damage to critical infrastructure. In Manievychi, a strike on the Ahrofrukt LTD facility, a company with Polish capital, resulted in one death and eight injuries.

Reports indicate that Russia is pursuing a strategic campaign to dismantle Ukraine's energy grid. A captured Russian plan, detailed by the New York Times, suggests a massive offensive involving 70 ballistic missiles, 720 long-range drones, and 150 guided bombs intended to cut off Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa from electricity, water, and heating.

While Ukraine has successfully targeted Russian energy infrastructure, including a recent strike on a fuel plant in Surgut, Siberia, the conflict remains intense. Amidst these developments, political tensions have risen following comments from Donald Trump regarding Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries, and reports of potential intelligence-sharing limitations from the United States.
