Poland activates air defense following Russian strikes on western Ukraine
Following Russian aerial attacks on targets in western Ukraine, Poland activated its air defense systems and scrambled fighter jets as a preventive measure to secure its airspace. The Government Security Centre (RCB) issued alerts to residents across multiple counties in the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie provinces.
In response to the military activity, airports in Lublin and Rzeszów temporarily suspended flight operations. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces stated that these actions are aimed at protecting Polish airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to the threatened zones.
Separately, Ukrainian border officials reported that Russian forces have been targeting border checkpoint infrastructure since late August, attempting to disrupt civilian and commercial supply chains. This physical bombardment is accompanied by hybrid threats, including false bomb threats and interference with operational databases, complicating logistics at crossings with Poland, Moldova, and Romania.
