Poland scrambles fighter jets following Russian drone activity near border

Russian drone activity in Ukrainian airspace has triggered security responses in Poland. Following Russian strikes in Ukraine, Polish fighter jets were scrambled to secure the national airspace, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on alert.

The Government Security Centre (RCB) issued emergency alerts to residents in parts of the Lubelskie and Podkarpackie voivodeships. While the immediate threat was later declared over, the incidents underscore the increasing proximity of the conflict to the Polish border. Reports indicate that Russian drones have recently operated near the border, with one falling just one kilometer from Polish territory and another damaging a locomotive on a train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw.

These events highlight the ongoing hybrid warfare challenges facing Poland, prompting increased discussions regarding civil defense, critical infrastructure protection, and border investments.
