Poland scrambles fighter jets amid Russian strikes near Ukrainian border
The Polish military has initiated preemptive air operations and placed all air defense, detection, and radar systems on high alert. This response follows intense Russian drone and missile strikes in western Ukraine near the Polish border.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that Poland will not cede any territory in the event of a future conflict with Russia. The military's actions aim to secure Polish airspace, particularly in regions adjacent to the Ukrainian border.
In eastern Poland, air raid sirens were activated, and residents in certain areas were advised to seek shelter. The heightened activity led to the temporary closure of the Rzeszów and Lublin airports, though operations have since resumed. While drones or debris have reportedly fallen near the border, Polish authorities confirmed that no violations of Polish airspace have occurred.
