Poland Secures Areas After Finding WWII Ordnance and Russian Rocket

On 28 July, specialists uncovered a large cache of World War II‑era unexploded ammunition in Dobrynin, Mielec County, including artillery shells and fragments of a German machine‑gun belt. The site was cordoned off with warning tape and the police were notified. The next day, a similar cache was found in Niewiska near provincial road 984, with further items discovered in the nearby Piątkowski Forest, all believed to stem from a wartime combat position. Local authorities urged residents to stay away from the secured zones, report any suspicious objects and call 112.

In Tarnawa‑Kolonia, Lublin region, an object containing a significant amount of explosive material was recovered. Prosecutors confirmed it was a rocket, most likely a Russian‑manufactured Ch‑101, not a drone. Around 50 soldiers of the WOT are searching the surrounding fields, sealing fragments and collecting soil samples for analysis by the Military Gendarmerie laboratory. The investigation remains ongoing.

Both incidents prompted heightened safety warnings and ongoing forensic work to identify and safely dispose of the ordnance.
