Poland secures EU strategic status for four critical raw material projects
The European Commission has granted strategic project status to four new initiatives in Poland under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). These projects, which include copper and silver mining and advanced metal recycling, aim to bolster Europe's battery, energy, defense, and aerospace industries. Including previous designations, Poland now hosts six EU strategic projects.
In conjunction with these developments, the Polish Council of Ministers has launched the National Critical Raw Materials Exploration Program. Running from 2026 to 2033 with a budget of approximately 186 million PLN, the program is managed by the Polish Geological Institute. The initiative focuses on mapping domestic mineral resources, such as copper ores, platinum group metals, and graphite, to reduce dependency on third-party nations and secure European supply chains.
