Poland Secures New US Military Funding and Pushes for Permanent Base

Polish officials are lobbying Washington for a permanent U.S. military base on Polish soil, arguing that a fixed installation would improve deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank and shorten response times, moving beyond the current rotational deployments under the 2020 Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.

In parallel, the United States announced an additional $4 billion in Foreign Military Financing for Poland, raising the total credit line to $20 billion. The boost was disclosed at the induction ceremony for Poland’s first F‑35A Joint Strike Fighters at Łask air base, attended by President Karol Nawrocki and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz, who said Poland plans to add two more F‑35 squadrons, potentially doubling the fleet to 64 jets.

The financing supports a broad range of U.S. weapons already purchased by Poland, including Apache helicopters, Patriot air‑defense systems, HIMARS artillery and Abrams tanks. While the permanent‑base proposal faces financial, logistical and diplomatic hurdles, especially with Russia, the expanded funding underscores Washington’s commitment to Polish security and deeper NATO integration.
