Meta faces €250 million fine request from Poland over fraudulent ads

Polish Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski has formally requested that the European Commission impose a €250 million fine on Meta Platforms. The request follows findings by CERT Polska, which identified 122 fraudulent advertisements during testing. According to the minister, Meta failed to act on 106 of these reports (86.8 percent), removing only 10 ads and providing no response for six others.

Gawkowski accused the company of failing to provide an effective response to scams and suggested that Meta may be profiting from fraudulent content. He has expressed intentions to urge other EU leaders to join a collective legal action against the company. In response, Meta stated it removed 380,000 fraudulent items from Poland between July 2025 and June 2026 and aims to have 90 percent of its advertising revenue come from verified entities by the end of 2026.

InPost CEO Rafał Brzoska has also criticized Meta, claiming the company earns approximately 20 million PLN daily from scams in Poland. Brzoska suggested that much larger penalties are necessary to deter the platform's perceived inaction.
