Poland seeks expanded US defense ties through Patriot missile production and permanent base talks

Poland’s deputy defense minister Magdalena Sobkowiak‑Czarnecka announced a proposal for a trilateral agreement with the United States and Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. The plan aims to secure a domestic supply for Ukraine, strengthen Poland’s role in air‑defence procurement and potentially give Poland greater leverage in reconstruction contracts.

Separately, Polish MP Paweł Kowal travelled to Washington to lobby the U.S. Congress for the establishment of permanent U.S. military bases in Poland. Kowal highlighted Poland’s defence spending, aid to Ukraine and the need to secure the border with Belarus, stressing that congressional approval and funding are essential for any permanent U.S. presence.
