Poland seeks greater influence amid perceived Western political marginalization

Former ambassador Marek Magierowski argues that despite Poland's significant economic and civilizational advancement since 1989, Western European elites continue to treat the country as a political periphery. This perceived 'mental iron curtain' is reflected in the exclusion of Central and Eastern European representatives from influential international positions and decision-making bodies.

Magierowski highlights the selection process for the NATO Secretary General as a key example, noting that while the alliance emphasizes the importance of the Eastern Flank, top leadership roles remain dominated by politicians from Western Europe. He suggests that Poland's role as a provider of security and its economic strength should translate into greater influence within international institutions, rather than remaining in a position of seeking recognition.
