Poland seeks permanent G20 membership amid trade disputes
Poland is pursuing permanent membership in the G20, leveraging its economic growth as a primary argument for inclusion. Polish Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański described the diplomatic negotiations as “difficult and complex,” noting that the group has not expanded its core membership in many years. Domański has engaged in bilateral talks with representatives from India, China, Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom to build international consensus for Poland’s stable participation.
Simultaneously, G20 trade representatives met in Milwaukee to discuss global economic issues, but failed to reach a consensus on key trade disputes. The United States proposed a draft aimed at addressing structural overcapacity and forced labor, claiming majority support from G20 members. However, China contested these claims, stating that members held differing opinions on these controversial issues, which prevented the development of a final joint document.
