Poland seeks to host 15,000 U.S. troops as military presence expands
Poland is working toward a target of hosting 15,000 U.S. military personnel on its territory. According to Polish Deputy Defense Minister Stanislaw Wziatek, the planned force would consist of 4,000 to 5,000 permanent troops and approximately 10,000 to 11,000 rotational soldiers. This buildup is expected to be implemented in stages through 2039.
U.S. President Donald Trump recently noted “significant progress” regarding the establishment of a permanent American military base in Poland. Currently, Poland hosts between 6,500 and 7,000 U.S. rotational troops. This expansion comes amid ongoing discussions regarding NATO security and the regional impact of the war in Ukraine.
In a related development, the Polish government announced the postponement of Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz’s scheduled visit to the Pentagon. The delay follows an “urgent request” from the United States. In place of the minister, Deputy Defense Ministers Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka and Pawel Zalewski will travel to Washington to continue bilateral defense discussions and prepare new agreements.
