Poland and Portugal issue heat‑wave safety guidance

Health authorities in Poland and Portugal warned that rising temperatures increase the risk of dehydration, heat‑stroke and other heat‑related illnesses. They outlined symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat and described heat‑stroke as potentially life‑threatening.

The advisories recommend staying in cool environments, drinking plenty of water, wearing light, breathable clothing, limiting sun exposure to two hours per day, using sunscreen and avoiding strenuous activity during peak heat. Special care is urged for the elderly, children, pets and people taking medication that affects temperature regulation. Residents should not leave children or animals unattended in parked vehicles, as interior temperatures can exceed 50 °C. Emergency services can be reached at 112 if severe symptoms appear.
