Fire breaks out on bulk carrier at Gdańsk’s Nabrzeże Szczecińskie port
A bulk carrier transporting scrap metal that was docked at the Nabrzeże Szczecińskie quay in Gdańsk caught fire in its cargo hold on Thursday evening. The blaze produced heavy smoke and flames, prompting the deployment of 17 fire‑fighter units, including two specialised fireboats. Firefighters focused on delivering extinguishing agents into the hold and dousing the accumulated scrap metal with water, which produced visible steam above the dock.
The ship’s crew was not evacuated and no injuries were reported. Authorities said there is no danger to nearby residents and the situation is being closely monitored. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Two separate reports from the Gdańsk fire brigade convey the same details, confirming that the fire remains under control while efforts continue to fully extinguish the blaze.
