Poland sees rise in high-rise residential construction
Poland is experiencing a rise in high-rise residential construction. According to data from Statistics Poland, developers completed 2,336 residential buildings in 2025, including 172 structures with at least eight stories. Warsaw remains the leader in this sector, accounting for 42 of these high-rise projects, or nearly 25 percent of the national total. Other cities with significant high-rise completions include Wrocław (18), Gdańsk (17), Katowice (12), and Rzeszów (10).
This trend toward denser urban living brings challenges regarding local infrastructure. Increased housing density necessitates greater capacity for schools, public transport, and road networks to accommodate more residents and vehicles.
In Warsaw, infrastructure development has struggled to keep pace with urban needs. Despite a 2018 campaign promise to add 8,000 new Park & Ride (P+R) spaces by 2021, the city's total P+R capacity stands at just over 4,800 spaces as of August 2026. While 480 new spaces were added through specific projects, the closure of two existing lots has offset gains. Current plans aim to add only 616 more spaces by late 2027, even as daily vehicle traffic into the capital reaches approximately 850,000.
