Poland sees rising emigration from Sweden

Data from Statistics Sweden (SCB) indicates a shift in migration patterns, with more Polish nationals leaving Sweden than arriving. Between January and June of this year, 1,669 Poles emigrated from Sweden, a 1.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Conversely, the number of Poles moving to Sweden fell by 10.3 percent, with only 956 arrivals recorded.

Experts suggest several factors driving this trend, including rising living costs in Sweden, a more difficult labor market with unemployment approaching 9 percent, and an improving economic situation in Poland. Additionally, many emigrants who left after Poland joined the EU in 2004 are now returning to care for aging parents or to be closer to family as they reach different life stages.
