Poland sees surge in solo weddings as self‑care ceremonies gain popularity

Solo weddings, also called sologamia, are becoming increasingly popular in Poland. The ceremonies are symbolic, have no legal effect and are promoted as a way to focus on self‑care and personal growth.

The initiative is led by the company One&Only, whose co‑founder Marta Szymczak says the events are not an alternative to traditional marriage but a declaration of the importance of a relationship with oneself. Participants undergo a 21‑day preparatory program aimed at increasing self‑awareness and self‑acceptance, and the service typically costs about 5,000 zł. While most clients are women, interest from men is growing.

Psychologists note that the trend reflects changing social roles, with some women being labeled egoistic for choosing a solo ceremony. Critics argue it may signal a retreat from social relationships, but organizers stress that caring for oneself is intended to improve future interpersonal connections.
