Sejm passes law to revoke driving licenses at railway crossings

The Polish Sejm has passed a significant amendment to the Road Traffic Law, introducing much stricter penalties for dangerous behavior at railway crossings. The reform, initiated by the Ministry of Infrastructure following a series of tragic accidents, aims to deter drivers from ignoring safety signals.

Under the new regulations, drivers will face a three-month suspension of their driving licenses for specific violations, including: entering a crossing on a red or flashing red light, bypassing lowered or partially lowered barriers, and entering a crossing when there is no space to exit on the other side.

The legislation passed with overwhelming support, receiving 422 votes in favor and only five against. The bill now moves to the Senate and awaits the President's signature. In addition to license suspension, the changes include stricter judicial mandates for causing communication disasters or creating immediate danger at crossings.
