Poland seniors face 12 bn zł debt as multi‑debtor crisis swells to 17.5 bn zł
Polish seniors are carrying a combined debt of almost 12 billion zlotys, according to BIG InfoMonitor data. In the past year, 1,109 people aged over 65 fell victim to fraud, losing more than 15.7 million zlotys, with an average debt of 34,132 zlotys per senior. The Mazowieckie region accounts for the largest share (≈2.6 bn zł), followed by Silesia (≈1.5 bn zlotys).
Across the wider population, consumers owe over 37 bn zlotys in credit debt and 44 bn zlotys in non‑credit obligations. Multi‑debtor households – those owing to three or more creditors – total 347,500 people and carry 17.5 bn zlotys of debt, representing 40 % of non‑credit arrears. The average multi‑debtor owes about 5.3 bn zlotys, with men accounting for a majority. The record holder has 29 creditors. These figures indicate a deepening debt spiral affecting all age groups and regions in Poland.
