Poland braces for heat wave as temperatures climb above 30°C

Meteorological services forecast a week‑long heat spell across Poland, with maximum temperatures rising from the high 20s to 35 °C in parts of the country and occasional thunderstorms. The Baltic Sea is unusually warm for June, reaching up to 22 °C in Tolkmicko and Wolin, while lakes in the Masurian and Pomeranian regions report water temperatures between 19 °C and 25 °C.

Public safety officials warn that the hot weather increases the risk of drownings and other water‑related accidents. Police from the Warsaw Prevention Unit patrol the Vistula River, especially in the Piaseczno district, urging swimmers to use guarded beaches where lifeguards are on duty. They stress the dangers of strong currents, sudden river eddies, and the need to avoid unprotected spots. Alcohol consumption, careless behaviour and lack of supervision of children are also highlighted as major factors in fatal incidents.

Health authorities advise citizens to stay hydrated, limit exposure during peak heat, and monitor weather updates. The combined heat and water conditions are prompting local authorities to reinforce safety messaging throughout the week.
