Poland social activity declines significantly during autumn months

A study titled ‘Seasonal rhythms and the social fabric. How autumn changes our relationships, routines and well-being level’ by Prezentmarzeń reveals a significant decline in social activity in Poland during the autumn months. Approximately 82% of respondents reported a decrease in the frequency of physical meetings with friends as temperatures drop and daylight decreases.

Social interactions are increasingly moving indoors, with 48% of people meeting in private homes and 25% choosing enclosed commercial spaces like cafes or restaurants. Only 21% of respondents continue to spend leisure time in open public spaces such as parks. Additionally, the study notes a cooling of neighborly relations, with many individuals retreating into daily routines and family-centric activities.

Psychological perspectives suggest that a lack of friendship can impact mental and physical health, including longevity and disease susceptibility. Experts note that while forming connections can become more difficult with age due to fewer opportunities, individuals should actively seek social engagement through courses or interest groups and reflect on whether personal character traits might be hindering their ability to maintain relationships.
