Poland: Targeted social assistance available for heating costs
Low-income households in Poland may apply for targeted social assistance to cover heating costs and fuel purchases before the winter season. Under Article 39 of the Social Assistance Act, local social welfare centers can grant allowances to meet essential living needs, including the purchase of coal, wood, pellets, or briquettes.
There is no fixed nationwide rate for this assistance; the amount is determined by the local social welfare center based on the applicant's specific situation and the municipality's available funds. To qualify for a standard targeted allowance in 2026, the monthly income must not exceed 1,010 PLN for a single-person household or 823 PLN per person for families. For a four-person household, the total monthly income threshold is 3,292 PLN.
