Poland targets extraction of critical raw materials

Poland is targeting the extraction of several critical raw materials essential for the energy transition, including nickel, tungsten, titanium, and vanadium. While the country already produces certain materials like copper, helium, and coal, and recycles aluminum and platinum group metals, officials are looking toward new deposits to meet strategic needs.

Krzysztof Galos, Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment and Chief Geologist of the Country, noted that while some current production exceeds domestic demand, new mining projects face challenges regarding environmental restrictions and social acceptance. To address this, the Ministry of Climate and Environment is preparing a draft law to ensure access to critical raw materials, with plans for government adoption in the third quarter of 2026. This legislation aims to organize the legal framework for new deposits and update the National Raw Materials Policy.
