Poland thwarts Russian plot to assassinate US-Ukrainian citizen in Warsaw
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that authorities have thwarted a Russian-ordered assassination plot in Warsaw. A Russian citizen was arrested on August 7 for allegedly planning to execute a dual US and Ukrainian citizen.
According to Tusk, the intended target was considered 'inconvenient' for the regime of President Vladimir Putin. The operation to prevent the attack was a collaborative effort involving the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW), the Polish police, and United States intelligence services.
Tusk noted that this incident is unprecedented, marking the first time a Russian-directed attempt has been made to kill a US citizen on the territory of a NATO member state. He warned that Poland may face similar security pressures in the future due to its role as a key supporter of Ukraine and a hub for military aid.
