Poland tightens hospital manager contracts and mandates price transparency

Polish officials clarified that the compensation clause for former hospital chief Jolanta Sobierańska‑Grenda, now health minister, was introduced by the extraordinary shareholders' meeting in January 2023, not in 2025 as some media claimed. The clause guarantees a non‑competition indemnity of up to 100 % of the manager’s monthly salary for each month of restriction, with a maximum six‑month period. The regional deputy marshal Leszek Bonna defended the retroactive entry‑into‑force of the July 2025 resolution as legal.

Separately, the Ministry of Health has drafted a legislative project that will require private hospitals and medical companies to publish the names of contractors and their rates on their websites and in the Central e‑Health Centre (CeZ) platform. Public hospitals will be exempt because from 1 July 2026 they will already have to disclose all contracts in the Central Register of Public‑Sector Unit Agreements. The draft aims to eliminate the “grey zone” in hospital procurement and is slated for cabinet consideration in the third quarter of 2026.
