Poland to develop new emergency warning application

The Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) is developing a new mobile application designed to warn citizens of approaching dangers. The project is a collaborative effort involving the Government Centre for Security (RCB), the State Fire Service (PSP), the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and mobile network operators.

According to Deputy Minister Wiesław Szczepański, the application aims to provide alerts at the level of counties and municipalities. The system is intended to notify users even if their phones are set to silent mode. Initial rollout is expected to prioritize eastern provinces bordering Ukraine, with plans to expand availability nationwide by the end of 2026.

In conjunction with the app, the government is also working to modernize the national siren system. Currently, Poland operates 22,000 sirens, but only 8,500 are digital and capable of automatic activation. The modernization process to replace the remaining analog sirens with digital versions is also scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
