Poland to establish government Center for Combating Disinformation

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk is set to establish a government Center for Combating Disinformation. According to Deputy Digital Minister Paweł Olszewski, the new body will serve as an advisory and auxiliary organ to the government.

The Center will include representatives from various ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the Government Security Centre and the National Prosecutor's Office. It will also have the capacity to consult with experts, NGOs, and media organizations.

Key objectives for the Center include developing a disinformation combat strategy and issuing official communications regarding identified disinformation campaigns. A dedicated website will be launched to address widespread narratives, particularly those originating from Russia and Belarus.

Separately, at the REINFO Information Security Congress in Białystok, Marek Błoński, Director General of the Polish Press Agency (PAP), emphasized the importance of a systemic approach to fighting disinformation. He noted that institutions like PAP play a vital role by providing verified information to saturate the information sphere with truth, complementing the work of fact-checking organizations and the Ministry of Digital Affairs.
