Poland to expand municipal guard powers over traffic enforcement

The Polish Ministry of Interior and Administration is preparing legislative changes to expand the powers of municipal and commune guards. The project, identified as UD482, has been entered into the legislative work register.

Key proposed changes regarding traffic control include granting guards the authority to intervene in cases of driving against the flow of traffic, driving on pedestrian paths or crossings, and polluting or littering roads. Additionally, the new regulations would allow guards to record audio and video during interventions.

Vehicle owners may also face new requirements. Guards would have the expanded authority to demand information regarding who the vehicle was entrusted to for driving or use during a specific time, even in situations not directly related to active traffic control operations.
