Poland to hold commemorations for 80th anniversary of historical events

Various commemorative events are scheduled across Poland to mark the 80th anniversary of historical incidents involving the Polish underground and security services.

In Sanok, Orzechówka, and Malinówka, a two-day program will take place on October 24–25, 2026, to honor Major Antoni Żubryd and Janina Żubryd. The ceremonies, organized by the Sanok Historical Museum and the Institute of National Remembrance (Rzeszów branch), include an honor guard from the Polish Army, historical lectures at Sanok Castle, the dedication of an obelisk, and a memorial ceremony in Malinówka. The 20th Przemyśl Territorial Defense Brigade will provide military assistance.

In Włodawa, a concert titled ‘Echa Wolności’ (Echoes of Freedom) is set for October 22 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the dissolution of the District Public Security Office (PUBP). The event, organized by Włodawa County and local cultural associations, will feature musical performances by Norbert ‘Smoła’ Smoliński, various soloists, choirs, and local ensembles to reflect on themes of freedom and historical memory.
