Poland to host ESA Technology Center to boost space workforce
Poland is set to host a new European Space Agency (ESA) Technology Center, the first of its kind in Central‑Eastern Europe. The centre, whose location will be chosen by mid‑July, will focus on Earth observation, satellite data analysis and the development of space technologies for civil security and crisis management. It aims to address a shortage of technical expertise in the Polish space sector by providing local training and project opportunities for engineers and scientists.
In November 2025 Poland pledged an additional €250 million to ESA for 2026‑2028, raising its contribution to €731 million, with about €550 million earmarked for optional programmes. The Polish space industry is valued at roughly 5.3 billion PLN in core activities and up to 12 billion PLN when including satellite data services. Around 27 000 students are enrolled in relevant studies, and about 50 research institutions are active in the field. The new centre is expected to keep talent in the country and help Poland become a regional leader in space technology.
