Poland to implement new photovoltaic installation and safety regulations

Poland's Ministry of Development and Technology is finalizing a regulation to unify the design and installation standards for photovoltaic (PV) systems, expected to take effect on September 20. The new rules aim to enhance fire safety and standardize mounting practices for installations on buildings, balconies, and ground surfaces.

Under the new requirements, owners must install emergency switches, insulation monitoring devices, short-circuit sensors, and autonomous smoke detectors near inverters. Buildings with PV systems will also require specific markings to assist firefighters during emergency operations. The regulation sets technical parameters, such as minimum distances from windows and doors, and prohibits running cables through chimneys.

These measures address existing inconsistencies in installation standards that have impacted user safety and emergency response. Additionally, improper installation has been linked to structural issues; for instance, incorrect mounting can damage protective roof coatings, leading to moisture accumulation and corrosion of the roofing material over time.
