Poland to invest 1 trillion PLN in energy transformation
Polish State Assets Minister Wojciech Balczun has announced plans to invest one trillion PLN into the country's energy sector over the next decade. Speaking at the Opole Energy Congress, Balczun stated that these investments are essential to meet rising energy demands driven by the growth of data centers and artificial intelligence.
The proposed energy mix includes the development of nuclear power, offshore and onshore wind farms, and gas-fired blocks, while coal will continue to serve as a stabilizing element. The minister also noted the potential for Small Modular Reactors (SMR) technology.
Balczun emphasized that energy infrastructure is a cornerstone of national security, particularly regarding geopolitical threats and the protection of NATO's eastern flank. Additionally, the minister highlighted the 'Local Content' initiative, designed to ensure Polish companies participate in major energy projects through increased cooperation with state-owned enterprises.
