Poland to launch Personal Investment Accounts in 2027

The Polish President has signed the Act on Personal Investment Accounts (OKI), which is set to take effect on January 1, 2027. The new regulation aims to encourage long-term investing by providing tax exemptions on capital gains for qualified assets up to a certain limit.

Market experts and officials, including the President of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Tomasz Bardziłowski, suggest that OKI could represent a significant shift for the Polish capital market. The initiative is expected to facilitate the migration of existing savings into more tax-efficient structures and potentially attract capital currently held in cash or deposits.

A study commissioned by Bank Millennium indicates that public awareness remains low; approximately 48% of Poles report knowing nothing about OKI, and 35% claim very little knowledge. However, nearly one-third of those familiar with the concept expressed interest in using it. Analysts note that the success of the program will depend heavily on effective investor education and the ability of financial institutions to offer diverse and accessible products.
