Poland to offer new COVID-19 vaccine for children from September 29

The Polish Ministry of Health has announced that a new COVID-19 vaccine for children under 12 years of age will be available starting September 29. The Spikevax XFG vaccine will be administered exclusively through primary healthcare clinics (POZ).

Vaccination protocols vary by age: children aged 5 to 11 will receive a single dose, while children aged 6 months to 4 years who have not been previously vaccinated will receive two doses of 0.25 ml, administered at least 28 days apart. For children with severe immunodeficiency, a doctor may authorize a third dose.

The vaccinations are free of charge and do not require an e-referral. Parents or guardians can register directly at primary healthcare clinics. The vaccine can be administered during the same visit as other immunizations, such as the flu shot, without a required waiting period. Vaccination is particularly recommended for children and adolescents with comorbidities, including diabetes, obesity, and chronic lung, kidney, or cardiovascular diseases.
