Poland to replace TV licence with new audiovisual tax as tax office recovers overdue fees

From 1 January 2027 Poland will abolish the traditional RTV licence and introduce a single audiovisual tax of roughly 8‑9 zł per month. The charge will be linked to each taxpayer’s income‑tax return, collected automatically by the tax authority, and will no longer depend on ownership of a television or radio set. The current system requires a 9.50 zł radio fee and a 30.50 zł TV fee, with payments made to the post office.

Polish tax offices have already been pursuing large arrears for the former RTV licence. Data show single recoveries ranging from a few thousand to over 100 k zł, with the highest case of 137 000 zł recorded in the West Pomeranian region. Most outstanding debts belong to companies that operate many receivers, such as office TVs, hotel devices or car radios.
