Poland to replace TV licence with universal audiovisual tax of about 100 zł per year

The Polish government plans to abolish the current RTV (radio‑television) licence fee and introduce a new universal audiovisual charge. Starting in 2027 the fee, estimated at roughly 100 zł annually per taxpayer, will be added to personal income‑tax (PIT) or corporate‑tax (CIT) returns, regardless of whether a household owns a TV or radio. The charge is set at 8‑9 zł per month and will be indexed each year. While the per‑person amount is lower than the existing household‑based fees (30.5 zł for TV and 9.5 zł for radio per month), larger families could see higher total payments. Exemptions will remain for seniors over 75, disabled persons, war veterans, and low‑income retirees. Enforcement will shift from the post office to tax authorities, aiming to improve collection efficiency.

The reform seeks to modernise financing of public media, addressing low compliance under the voluntary registration system and high penalties for undeclared devices.
