Poland traffic regulations for bus overtaking and pedestrian crossings

Polish traffic regulations outline specific requirements for drivers when overtaking buses at stops and navigating pedestrian crossings. There is no general ban on overtaking a bus stopped at a designated stop, provided the maneuver is performed safely, maintains a sufficient distance, and does not create a hazard.

Drivers must yield to buses re-entering traffic within built-up areas if the bus driver signals their intention with a turn signal. If a bus is stationary but not signaling an intent to move, drivers may pass according to road markings and traffic organization.

Regarding pedestrian crossings, drivers must yield to pedestrians. On roads with at least two lanes in one direction, a specific restriction applies: drivers are prohibited from overtaking a vehicle traveling in the same direction that has stopped specifically to yield to a pedestrian. This rule remains in effect even if the overtaking driver's own path appears clear, as the presence of the stopped vehicle changes the legal context of the maneuver.
