Poland traffic rules clarify overtaking exceptions

Polish traffic regulations contain specific nuances regarding overtaking that are often misunderstood by drivers. The B-25 sign, which indicates a prohibition on overtaking, does not apply to all vehicles. Specifically, it prohibits motor vehicles from overtaking other multi-track motor vehicles. This means a car may legally overtake a single-track vehicle, such as a motorcycle, but a motorcycle cannot overtake a car. Additionally, bicycles and trams are not subject to this specific prohibition.

Regarding agricultural machinery, there is a legal distinction between a tractor and a slow-moving vehicle. While a slow-moving vehicle is limited to 25 km/h, a tractor is defined as a motor vehicle capable of speeds no less than 6 km/h and is designed for agricultural or forestry work. Crucially, a continuous line on the road does not automatically prohibit overtaking if the width of the lane allows a driver to pass a tractor without crossing or driving over the line.
