Poland energy sector focuses on heating transformation and biomass

Poland is undergoing a significant energy transformation focused on decarbonizing the heating sector. Current data shows that biomass accounts for 15.27% of heat production in the country, while coal remains the dominant source at 52.8%. The government's Heating Transformation Strategy through 2040 identifies biomass as a key dispatchable source capable of stabilizing heating systems.

Urban areas are increasingly adopting modern technologies to reduce emissions and costs, including heat pumps, solar thermal collectors, and the integration of industrial waste heat. Companies like Fortum are actively working on modernizing networks through renewable energy integration and intelligent management.

At the local level, municipal governments are providing subsidies to encourage residents to replace high-emission stoves with cleaner alternatives such as heat pumps, gas, or biomass boilers. Support amounts vary by municipality, with some local programs offering several thousand PLN per installation.
