Poland transport and automotive sectors face labor shortages and rising costs

Poland is experiencing significant shifts in its automotive and transport sectors. In the logistics industry, a persistent shortage of drivers remains a critical issue. Despite a median net salary of approximately 9,000 PLN in 2025, companies struggle to attract younger workers, as the average age of the workforce continues to rise.

Regional economic data from Mazovia shows varying wage levels, with Podkowa Leśna recording the highest average salaries and Potworów the lowest. In the automotive sector, drivers face rising costs due to technological advancements; the average price of a headlight has increased significantly due to complex LED and sensor integration.

Regulatory and legal challenges are also emerging. New traffic laws in Poland now allow for the loss of a driver's license for speeding over 50 km/h on single-carriageway roads outside built-up areas. Additionally, authorities are addressing enforcement gaps regarding vehicles with non-EU plates, specifically Ukrainian registrations, where a low percentage of fines are successfully collected. Meanwhile, the insurance market is being impacted by fraudulent practices involving Italian drivers using Polish registrations to avoid higher domestic insurance premiums.
